mercury-outboard Mercury outboards have an interesting past. Carl Kiekhaefer, the man who started Mercury Marine, originally had plans to make magnetic separators for the dairy industry. He purchased 300 defective outboard motor boats from a small company in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. With the helping hands of a small staff of people Carl Kiekhaefer re-built the motors and sold them to another company. The buying company was overwhelmed with the quality and went on to place more orders. It was because the motors being designed by Carl Kiekhaefer and his staff were of superb quality that the company’s the client list started to grow. Carl named the company Mercury after the fleet-footed Roman god. At the 1940 New York Boat Show his company received of 16,000 orders in 4 days. Used Mercury outboards and spares are listed here

Mercury outboard motor sizes range between 2.5 to 300 horsepower and sterndrives touch 1,200 horsepower. Mercury have recently developed the Verado outboard engine. This helps to integrate the outboard into an entire system. It enhances efficiency and provides advanced diagnostics. In the marine world for as long as I can remember, Mercury outboards have been regarded as the ‘best’.
